Star Wars Celebration Chicago Day 3 – Fangirls on the Podcast Stage & Galaxy’s Edge

Galaxy’s Edge Panel and Booth

The day began with the Galaxy’s Edge panel – “Bringing Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to Life at the Disney Parks”. I was hoping for a reveal of more information regarding this new land coming to Disneyland on May 31st and Walt Disney World on July 29th. However, after an hour panel in which they reiterated much of what we already knew, only three new things had been revealed.

FIRST Robotics Announcement

Scott Trowbridge, Imagineer in charge of Galaxy’s Edge, appeared and made the first new announcement – Disney is teaming up with FIRST, a global robotics organization, for the Force for Change initiative. Charity and Star Wars – millions have been raised through programs and contests like this. Here is Mark Hamill to tell you more!

Coca-Cola is Canon!

The FIRST Robotics announcement wet our whistle for more, and Disney delivered – Coca-Cola is Star Wars canon! The two giant companies have partnered to make Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite and Dasani water available on Batuu, but in completely redesigned bottles complete with Aurebesh labels. All except the Dasani water look like little thermal detonators you’ll want to take home with you as an official Disney Parks keepsake.

Yoda, You Seek Yoda

The story of Batuu and Galaxy’s Edge is firmly set in The Force Awakens timeline of Star Wars. You will encounter Resistance and First Order troops. According to this timeline, Yoda has become one with the Force nearly 30 years ago. However, Trowbridge announced that you may hear Yoda in the Parks if you’re paying attention, and he is voiced by his original counterpart – Frank Oz! The Wintrust Arena erupted in applause at this announcement. It is not certain whether Yoda’s voice will appear in a ride, or simply around Batuu as you explore uncharted areas. I have a feeling you may hear him as you use your Play Disney Parks App (in Galaxy’s Edge it will turn into a Datapad). All I know is I will be seeking Yoda’s voice come May 31st!

Galaxy’s Edge Merchandise Update

The Galaxy’s Edge booth had new merchandise today!! IT’S ALL THE PLUSH! I MUST HAVE ALL THE PLUSH THINGS! I got to hold an Ahsoka doll!!! Enjoy a look at all the plush and especially this cute Kowakian Monkey Lizard. Who wants a porg to call their very own? What would you name your pet Kowakian Monkey? Arriving at Disneyland on May 31st! I officially have a reservation for May 31st, and you can bet I’ll be checking out these items and taking home my very own Ahsoka. And perhaps a Kloo-horn. And a pet porg….

The heart of Celebration is our Podcast Stage. We get to say hello to our Yub Cubs in person! I love chatting with Tricia, Teresa and Sandra on a monthly basis, but it’s extra special when we can spend time together and share moments.
